March Fairies

The Marches (Cheshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire) are so named because they formed the medieval border with Wales. The Marches were consequently a dangerous area. It was also an area that was both influenced by Wales and that had a substrata of Welsh culture: there are many more Welsh or British Celtic placenames than in the Midlands, for example. Naturally, the fairies there share certain features with the Welsh fairies to the west.
