The earliest reference to the Fairy Steps at Beetham that we have been able to find dates to 1876. It is possible then that this was a Victorian creation.

There is a tradition that anyone who climbs the steps without touching the side will have a wish granted to them: if you don’t have wings or a gravity pack or are two inches wide this is, though, impossible.
